Dive Brief:
- AI-powered websites are frustrating mobile users due to broken elements and clunky interfaces, according to a report released Tuesday by Fullstory, a behavioral data company.
- Mobile error clicks skyrocketed 667% from 2024 to 2025, while mobile bounce rates increased 54%.
- The desktop user experience, on the other hand, has improved, as web error clicks fell 68% year over year. “Errors, rage clicks, and abandonments are far more common on mobile, with users hitting dead ends in nearly every visit,” according to Fullstory.
Dive Insight:
Rising user expectations, and their diminishing patience, is exacerbating mobile error clicks, especially as users grow accustomed to more efficient desktop AI interactions.
“Across all sectors, mobile traffic is rising, but UX often lags,” according to Fullstory. “Technology that improves the customer experience on desktop may not generate a positive experience on mobile. As a result, businesses need to test their user interface.”
Dysfunctional mobile user experiences caused mobile session duration to soar 332% YoY, as users spent nearly 16 minutes per session in 2025 compared with less than four minutes per session in 2024. It was even worse for the retail industry, where mobile session volume leaped 442% from 2024 to 2025.
Mobile dead clicks remained extremely high, with 929 per 1,000 sessions, a slight increase over last year.
Finance and retail websites experienced higher mobile bounce rates than other industries, rising 85% and 64% YoY, respectively. By comparison, food and beverage websites saw their mobile bounce rate increase a modest 13%.
Travel websites, meanwhile, experienced a 10% decline in mobile bounce rates.
